| The Olde Cannery is home of the Dahlonega Arts Council. The Council is dedicated to educating the public to diverse aspects and forms of art and to create and nurture an environment supportive of the arts. It is fortunate to have many talented artists as members. Several members will be demonstrating during the tour. Our anchor artists, who will be there for the entire tour, are Oscar Rayneri, watercolor artist; and Brenda Steele, jewelry artist. Oscar Rayneri, watercolor artist, lives and works in Dahlonega, Georgia. Among the beauty of the mountains, Oscar searches out waterfalls, rustic barns, flowers, and landscapes to capture in his paintings. Rayneri is a regular instructor at John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC, where he teaches watercolors and drawing. He also teaches workshops throughout the southeast. Rayneri watercolors and drawings hang in many private and corporate collections (Procter & Gamble, Miller Brewing, and Merck Chemical). Commissions have included limited edition prints for the National Kidney Foundation to raise money for kidney research and the Thronateeska Heritage Foundation, in Albany, GA, to commemorate the Sesquicentennial (150 years) Anniversary. Eight of Rayneri’s watercolors have been selected for the covers of Florida and Georgia magazines. His pencil drawings have also illustrated three books. Currently, Oscar's watercolors can be seen at the Sautee Nacoochee Gallery and at the Cannery Gallery. Brenda Steele is a self taught jewelry artist. She has been making stained glass for 26 years, and has always enjoyed creating beauty with her hands. So, when a friend introduced her to the world of handcrafted jewelry... a new passion was born! The hunt for unique, exotic and unusual stones and beads has become as much fun for her as turning them into beautiful creations. She specializes in hammered copper, copper wrapping and coiling and sometimes incorporates stained glass in her jewelry. She recently won *Best of Show* at the 2010 Spring Art Show at The Cannery Art Center. She participates in the Artists Marketplace, Saturdays, May through October, in Hancock Park, downtown Dahlonega. You may contact her at uniquebeadsbybrenda@yahoo.com TOUR EVENT: You will not want to miss Oscar Rayneri demonstrating his unique technique of combining an impressionistic background with detailed, realistic flowers and also painting landscapes and architectural subjects. Brenda Steele will be creating her hammered copper designs, along with other unique creations. Other member/artists will be demonstrating throughout the weekend. Participating artists work will be for sale. Refreshments will be served. |
